AIDS Assistance Program Reinstates “Every Dollar Counts” Fundraiser
The AIDS Assistance Program today announced the return of their community-based fundraiser affectionately known as “Every Dollar Counts” where local businesses and organizations collect change in containers throughout the Coachella Valley to benefit those living with HIV/AIDS.

“It’s amazing how a few coins and left-over change can really add up,” says Paul Froman, the Board member of AIDS Assistance Program who has taken this program under his wing. “We’ve had such success with the program, both among the community and participating businesses, that we’re bringing it back. Every dollar counts when it comes to helping our clients.” He added, “One store, Q Trading Company, keeps their container right next to the cash register, and encourages customers to donate when a complimentary gift-wrap is requested.”

Businesses, organizations, and individuals interested in participating in the program can call 760/325-8481 for more information.

Since its founding in 1991, the AIDS Assistance Program of Palm Springs remains dedicated to providing comfort and support to improve the quality of the lives of those surviving HIV/AIDS. Initiated by a small group of concerned citizens, led by the late Gloria Greene and Jeannette Rockefeller, AAP provided meals to members of the community with low incomes and suffering with HIV/AIDS. Since then, the AIDS Assistance Program’s client roster has grown from approximately 20 to more than 500 people.

Upon her return to the United States, she continued her studies and became a Master of Black Hat Tantric school Feng Shui and has received two master titles for her Feng Shui studies. Her training continued recently with Gurunam Joseph Levry in New York City, where she received his blessings to practice the ancient science of Kabbalah.
An expert on the use of color, and an authority on lifestyle designs and personal style, Carole has appeared on The View, CBS Morning Show, CNN, MTV, The Style Channel, and the Travel Channel. Carole’s jewelry and home accessories are sought after by her roster of celebrity clients, which include: Susan Sarandon, Sheryl Crow, Julie Chen, Patti D’Arbanville, Ileana Douglas and Annette Bening. The City of Palm Springs has a wonderful history of valuing library services. As far back as 1919, well before incorporation, the residents had established a public library in a small adobe building. As the village grew, the citizens followed the library through more than 12 different locations. With over 152,000 individual items, the Palm Springs Public Library has the largest collection in the Valley. The Library is located at 300 S. Sunrise Way, on the corner of Sunrise Way and Baristo Road, one of the anchors of Sunrise Park and a destination for residents and visitors alike. Desert Regional Medical Center is Presenting Sponsor of 21st Anniversary Desert AIDS Walk
Desert AIDS Project is pleased to announce that Desert Regional Medical Center has donated $25,000 as Presenting Sponsor of the Desert AIDS Walk on Saturday, October 25, 2008.

“As a primary health care provider to the desert cities, Desert Regional appreciates the importance of what Desert AIDS Project is doing every day for its 2,300 clients, as well as helping to reduce the transmission of HIV,” said Cliff Daniels, Associate Administrator of Business Development at Desert Regional Medical Center. “We’re hoping our contribution and support will get D.A.P. off to an early start toward their goals of 3,000 Walkers and raising $300,000. We hope the entire community will get behind their cause and come out to walk with them.”

October 25, 2008 will mark the 21st anniversary of the Desert AIDS Walk. Besides raising necessary funds to provide services to the clients of D.A.P and others at-risk for HIV, it serves to remind the public that AIDS is not over.

“Desert Regional Medical Center is a great example of our local supporters who have helped us grow from a grassroots operation 24 years ago to the nationally-recognized AIDS service organization that we are today,” said David Brinkman, Executive Director of Desert AIDS Project. “Without the support of our generous and vibrant community, we couldn’t continue to serve our ever-increasing client base of individuals and families affected by HIV and AIDS.”

Desert AIDS Project is the organization in our community where people living with HIV and AIDS can receive comprehensive support, including medical care, case management, and social services. D.A.P. also offers confidential HIV testing at a number of locations and widespread education and prevention services for schools, civic organizations, businesses, churches, and health organizations throughout the communities it serves.
